Reauthorizing Override funds is essential to providing quality educational offerings in the District. Support from parents and citizens makes it possible for FUSD to challenge students with choices that prepare them for college, careers, citizenship, and life. Appropriations for Arizona’s K-12 education system continue to lag behind most states. FUSD has carefully managed funds and reductions to budgets.
The District faces challenges in keeping highly qualified teachers in the classroom while maintaining reasonable class sizes. The District spends wisely and conservatively while advancing excellence and expanding options for our students through early childhood and Full Day Kindergarten, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate, Arts, Athletics, and STEM offerings. The District voters have recognized and supported our needs for these additional funds and we request your continued support in November 2022.
The Governing Board unanimously requests renewal of the 15% Budget Override beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. Renewal of the Override allows FUSD to: maintain current programming and reasonable class sizes, improve student outcomes, and attract and retain highly qualified teachers. We are committed to providing quality education for all students. Please join in a commitment to FUSD students by voting YES for this vital Override reauthorization.
Please vote YES in support of Flagstaff Unified District’s request to continue its current 15% Maintenance & Operation budget override. This is a continuation of the existing M&O override that has been in place and consistently renewed by voters since 2010.
In Arizona, the state legislature increasingly limits funding to operate and maintain schools using a complex formula which is outdated and has grown more restrictive every year often leaving schools significantly underfunded.
As a result, school districts must use their ability to raise money locally for building improvements, renovations, technology, staffing needs and student programs through voter approved bonds and maintenance and operations budget overrides. The beauty of this funding is that each dollar raised stays right here in our local schools.
The FUSD Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting educators and students in Northern Arizona. By working with businesses and other organizations, the Foundation provides innovation grants to teachers to help augment critical school funding shortfalls. We see first- hand the concerns created when funding is not adequate.
Great schools are the foundation of a great community! So please join us in voting YES for the continuation of the FUSD M&O budget override.
As a proud parent of two Flagstaff Unified School District graduates, I know the value that a well-supported school district has in the lives of its students. FUSD offers all students access to challenging and exemplary core programs, and vast opportunities in the arts, athletics, and career education. As a district volunteer, I understand how crucial override funds are to the stability of the district’s maintenance and operations budget. These funds support current levels of academic programming and staffing, funding for full-day kindergarten, instructional aides, and smaller class sizes.
Voters within FUSD’s boundaries have consistently expressed a desire for strong K-12 programming and demonstrated a commitment to that vision through the passage of previous overrides. This commitment has helped insulate our classrooms from state cuts in education funding. This override renewal will provide a continuation of that funding. As such, voting YES is an easy way to provide high impact local funding, while maintaining current tax rates.
Please join me in a renewed community commitment to FUSD’s kids by voting YES.
Northern Arizona Interfaith Council (NAIC) urges you to vote in support of continuing the 15% budget override that allows FUSD to provide critical services for our students. NAIC has long advocated for greater state support for public schools and decries the ongoing attempts by our state elected officials to defund public education. As a result, FUSD is forced to find local support for essential educational programs, including early intervention preschool, athletics, art, and music programs.
This budget override will support programs that benefit all families. Including those who might not otherwise be able to participate in private art, music, and sports programs that are prohibitively expensive. It will fund the continuation and expansion of preschool programs that support working parents and help all children start kindergarten ready to learn. And it will support programs such as AP and IB that provide college credits while still in high school, making postsecondary education more accessible.
FUSD students are growing up in our neighborhoods, and they need a quality education to help them become independent contributors to our communities. Their success will benefit us all. Voting for this override is the right thing to do for them and for us.
If you believe in retaining and attracting high quality staff and teachers in Flagstaff, not to mention extracurricular programs like music, and paying for full day kindergarten, all things the state leaves up to local districts to do without adequate funding from the state, then join me in voting YES on 447.
This is NOT a tax increase.
It keeps the current tax rate in place and ensures that Flagstaff’s students will continue to have a high quality teacher in every classroom by attracting and retaining the best, something that the state can’t seem to recognize as important enough to fund. So we as a community must again, do what the state doesn’t see as a priority; to generate the necessary revenue to supplement the basic aid the state gives local districts.
Join me in overriding the states inadequacy of funding for our schools.
We are “Yes For FUSD”, a citizens group urging you to vote yes for the renewal of Flagstaff Unified School District’s Maintenance and Operations Override on November 8, 2022. These override funds have been the key to keeping class sizes smaller and retaining many special and innovative programs that provide a comprehensive education for all students. The cost of renewing this override is minimal and does NOT raise taxes.
Over the last decade, the State of Arizona has reduced funds for school districts. Therefore it is essential that we provide local support for our schools by voting yes to continuing existing funds. In voting to reauthorize the override, we will keep this pillar of our community strong and assure that our kids continue to receive a quality education. Let’s continue to prioritize education in our community. Vote YES for Prop 447 - the continuation of the FUSD override.
Please vote YES on the FUSD Bond and YES to continue the Override. As a parent and teacher, the high-quality education of our Flagstaff community’s children is extremely important to me. School facilities need to meet modern safety standards and be capable of supporting technological advancements. I support the bond to rebuild two elementary schools and complete other needed building projects around the district.
Our state legislature has woefully insufficiently funded school districts’ maintenance and operations budgets for decades and now our schools are in disrepair, It is time for safety updates and repairs. It is time to make efficient, money-saving upgrades. This task falls to the taxpayers since our legislature refuses to fully fund our schools. Now is the time to act so that Flagstaff’s school children benefit from the necessary upgrades to the schools.
Let your voices be heard that education is important. Our family feels fortunate to live in a district that supports its schools and we are thankful the school district offers excellent educational opportunities. Providing proper school facilities, quality infrastructure and competitive technology advancements are critical to the success of our students. Please vote “yes” for FUSD’s bond and override.
There was a time when Arizona truly valued education, but sadly not as much today. However, Flagstaff has a long and proud tradition of supporting education through the passage of bonds.
Our experience with city government, the school district governing board and now with Flagstaff Unified School District’s (FUSD) Bond Oversight Committee gives us great confidence that FUSD is providing real value with our tax dollars. The dedicated Governing Board and staff continue to assure quality education for all students. This district is a model for the state.
FUSD has been a responsible steward and has earned our trust and votes. Our children will be short changed if the funds for technology, school buses, maintenance and replacement of buildings and an enhanced Camp Colton are limited further. Adequate books, computers and software are necessities in our classrooms. These items are expensive and unfortunately the State does not provide enough.
Please join us and continue the tradition by again investing in our children with a YES vote for Flagstaff Unified School District’s bonds on November 8, 2022.
Thanks. You won’t be sorry!
Friends of Camp Colton supports the Flagstaff Unified School District School Bond and encourages you to vote “yes” to create better learning environments for our kids.
This bond includes roughly $5 million for improvements at Camp Colton, FUSD’s outdoor environmental education center. This off-grid campus on the slopes of the San Francisco Peaks is an integral part of what it means to grow up in Flagstaff. For the last 51 years, the residential 6th grade program has introduced more than 45,000 students to the wonders of their local environment.
To preserve, enhance, and adapt this tradition, it is vital that the much- loved and worn facilities are improved. Current infrastructure, including water, bathrooms, and the kitchen, still operating on a wood-burning stove, are all well past their prime. As this site has operated with minimal improvements since the program began, major upgrades and replacements are needed for Camp Colton to continue for another 50 years.
At Camp, kids are immersed in nature and inspired to learn about themselves and the world that surrounds them. With updated facilities and space, Camp Colton will not only continue the tradition but grow to reach more children through new outdoor experiences.
The State of Arizona has woefully underfunded public school districts and shifted the responsibility from the state to the local taxpayers to foot the bill for any needed new construction and repairs for public school buildings, not to mention keeping up with technology for both hardware and software needs for staff and students. We must do our part as citizens in our community to maintain modern and safe facilities for students to learn in, and staff to work in, since our state government has failed to fulfill their responsibility. Vote yes on 448.
We are Yes For FUSD, a citizen-based political action group urging you to vote YES for FUSD’s bond initiative - Proposition 448. The proposed allocation of these funds - for renovation and improvement of school buildings and facilities like Camp Colton - is a critical investment in our district schools, which are a pillar of our community. The state of Arizona significantly reduced funding to school districts for building repairs and improvements in 2008, so we must act locally to address the district’s most urgent needs in facilities maintenance. In passing this bond, we will keep this pillar of our community strong, ensure our kids’ safety, and continue to prioritize education in our community. We urge you to vote YES for Prop 448 - the FUSD bond.
